MEASURE VENT COVERS
REMOVE YOUR EXISTING VENT COVERNote: Do not measure your existing cover.
MEASURE THE DUCT OPENING IN YOUR FLOOR, WALL OR CEILING. (LENGTH IN INCHES -BY- HEIGHT IN INCHES) THIS IS YOUR DUCT OPENING SIZE.Note: The Length (L) is always expressed first, followed by the height (H) dimension. Many of our vent grilles include directional patterns so it is crucial to provide both dimensions in their respective order.
MATCH THE DUCT OPENING SIZE TO THE CORRESPONDING VENT COVER SIZE LISTED ON THE PRODUCT LISTING. THE LENGTH AND HEIGHT OF YOUR DUCT OPENING SHOULD MATCH THE WIDTH AND LENGTH OF SPECIFIC REGISTER/GRILLE YOU WISH TO PURCHASE.Note: This is your opening (inside) measurement. The overall (outside) size of your cover will be larger than the opening size–this accompanies the outside border portion of the cover where the screw holes are placed. The actual dimension of the covers interior flange will be slightly smaller than your rough opening size–this is to ensure that the flange or damper fits comfortably inside of the duct opening.
DUCT OPENING IS IN A TOE-KICK OR CLOSE TO THE ADJACENT WALL?
HAVE A NON-STANDARD SIZE?
NEW WALL OR FLOOR TRIM LEAVING NO SPACE FOR A STANDARD COVER BORDER SIZE?
Don’t worry, we can adjust the size of your cover to fit! In many cases you will need to size down the cover to ensure the cover and its accompanying border will fit your duct. This is done by subtracting the size of the border (typically 1″-1.5″) from the opening size. e.g. a 10″x4″ duct opening that butts up against a wall can be covered by a 10″x3″ cover. Please call us if you are unsure of your measurements.
